BernardProfitendieu Says:

Mar 2, 2010 - Prokofieff himself, dear Nini, spelled his name with the double-f when writing and signing documents when he lived in New York ... let's assume he know how to spell his own name and let that trump any misguided tradition

Jan 20, 2010 - Wonderful. I saw this concert live on TV at 31.12.1988. It was the last new years-eve-concert with the famous conductor Herbert von Karajan.

Jan 13, 2010 - For what Celibidache is driving at, is to achieve something with a tenacity, posed upon him what is dictated by his artistic and sccientific conscious, coexisting in Buddhist unity, togehter with the difficulty of communicating this to an orchestra (really admirable those Munichs) is so out of the ordinary, that what you get is either blinded admiration or even blinded despice, both which of course are beside the truth. I have a recording of this very piece by him as a young god. It is quicker!

serjaoba Says:

Dec 8, 2009 - I very much prefer this rendition to that of Lenny Bernstein which can also be viewed/heard on YouTube. Like the slower tempo much better.

Oct 7, 2009 - ..looks like I am not the only one that does not like the Karajan/Prokofiev combination.......the lilt, the movement escapes Karajan..or perhaps the Berlin Phil too......

op2torch Says:

Sep 19, 2009 - Comments so far at least the performance is not bad.Different interpretation from different conductor matters

NiniClarineta Says:

Sep 16, 2009 - The truth is, dear jerendonb, Prokofiev is a russian name and written with Cyrilic alfabet. For this reason there are several ways to transliterate his name. The sound of the last letter is F in russian, for this reason you saw the form Prokofieff, but since the Germans were the first to transliterate his name the form was being Prokofiev, because in german this V has the sound of F. And the tradition remains.

NiniClarineta Says:

Sep 16, 2009 - Very nice. Karajan is a Master with no doubt. But honestly i prefer the record by Seiji Ozawa with the Berlin Philharmonic.Greetings from Brazil
